Manning highlights AFC's best for Week 3

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, Jacksonville Jaguars
cornerback Rashean Mathis and Houston Texans kicker Kris Brown were
named the AFC's top players for the third week of the season.

Manning was spectacular in last Sunday's 45-31 victory over the Green
Bay Packers, throwing five touchdown passes in the first half alone.
He finished the contest 28-of-40 for an NFL season-high 393 yards
without an interception and a passer rating of 140.9.

This was Manning's seventh career player of the week award. He also
became the second consecutive Colt to claim the offensive honor, as
running back Edgerrin James took the award last week.

Mathis recorded seven tackles, an interception and a forced fumble in
Jacksonville's 15-12 victory over AFC South rival Tennessee. He picked
off Steve McNair on the first series of the game to set the tone and
helped the Jaguars to their first 3-0 start since 1998.

Brown booted the game-winning 49-yard field goal with seven seconds
remaining to give Houston a 24-21 victory at Kansas City. He made all
three of his field goal tries in the contest to nab his fourth career
player of the week honor.

Other offensive nominees for the award included Baltimore running back
Jamal Lewis, who ran for 186 yards in a victory at Cincinnati, and
Denver quarterback Jake Plummer, who threw for 294 yards and a pair of
scores in a win over San Diego.

On the defensive side of the ball, Houston cornerback Marcus Coleman
was also nominated for his 102-yard interception return for a
touchdown that kick- started the Texans to their upset of the Chiefs
at Arrowhead Stadium.

Pittsburgh punter Chris Gardocki was considered for the special teams
honor after averaging 41.4 net yards on six punts, placing three
inside the 20, in the swirling winds and rain during the Steelers'
hurricane-marred victory over Miami.
